How is Buccal Fat Pad Removal Performed ?

This quick, simple surgery can be performed under local anesthesia, IV sedation, or general anesthesia. It can be done as a stand-alone procedure, or in combination with other facial cosmetic treatments. The buccal fat pad removal procedure typically takes 30 minutes or less to perform.
After numbing the area (when the procedure is performed with local anesthetic), Dr. Slenkovich will make a small incision on the inside of the cheek, then locate and gently remove the buccal fat pad. The fat pad is easily removed, as it has minimal connection to surrounding structures. After removing the right amount of fat to create more defined cheek contours, Dr. Slenkovich closes the incisions with absorbable sutures.
Post Operation
- You will not be allowed to shower or make the bandages wet for the first two days.
- You will also need to avoid strenuous activities.
- You also need to keep your head propped up with pillows for a couple of days while resting to reduce the swelling.
- After about a week: Stitches are removed or dissolvable.
- After several weeks: Scars and redness should fade away.
- After six to nine months: The full effect of the facelift should be seen.
