A deviated septum is an off-centre or crooked bone and cartilage that divides your nasal cavity in half. Septoplasty repairs a deviated septum to improve your breathing. Rhinoplasty changes the appearance of your nose often using a graft or implant.

Septorhinoplasty involves making a cut to the skin-like lining inside your nose and lifting it off the cartilage and bone. This means that any scars will be invisible. Any bent cartilage and bone parts are removed and the remaining cartilage and bone are returned in a straight and central position.
Your surgeon may shave or remove some cartilage in the tip or hump of your nose. They can also straighten and narrow the nasal bones by breaking and then setting them.
Cartilage or bone grafts or an artificial implant might be needed to support or rebuild your nasal framework, correct your deviation and give your nose its shape.
How long is septorhinoplasty surgery?
Septorhinplasty surgery usually takes one to two hours and is performed under general anaesthetic.
Who performs septorhinoplasty?
Either an ENT or plastic surgeon who is experienced in rhinoplasty can perform the functional and cosmetic aspects of septorhinoplasty.
What is the recovery process after a septorhinoplasty procedure?
Your recovery from this procedure is individual to you and will depend on your age, health and extent of your procedure.
You should be able to go home on the same day.
If you had packing in your nose, it is usually removed the next day. Your surgeon will remove the splint and strapping after a week.
You should stay off work and away from groups of people for two weeks to avoid catching an infection. Also, refrain from strenuous activities for two weeks.
Most swelling and bruising will usually have settled after the third week. It may take many months for the final appearance to develop.

What is the recovery from a Piezo rhinoplasty?
There is little or no pain following surgery. Also bruising is significantly reduced. A nasal splint is required in the usual way to keep the nasal bones in position during the initial healing period. This splint is removed approximately 1 week later. At the time of splint removal the majority of patients will discover minimal or no bruising. The photo here shows an example of the lack of bruising visible at one week as soon as the nasal cast has been removed.
However, it should be remembered that since a number of different structures are altered during the rhinoplasty it can still take approximately a year to see the final result after full healing. Unfortunately there is no fast track to the final result but certainly there are advantages in the early recovery period and in the precision of the technique which provides benefits in the quality of results obtained.
